how GRE® revised General Test scores are reported.

After you've taken the test, the next step is getting your scores and reporting them to the schools you designate. With the new ScoreSelectSM option you can send scores from your Most Recent test administration, scores from All GRE tests you have taken, or Any specific test administration. In addition to your scores for each section of the test, your report will include your name, contact information, intended major, score recipients, test dates and percentile rank information.

Here's a look at the score scale for each of the 3 sections:

  • Verbal Reasoning scores are reported on a 130–170 score scale, in 1-point increments.
  • Quantitative Reasoning scores are reported on a 130–170 score scale, in 1-point increments.
  • Analytical Writing scores are reported on a 0–6 score scale, in half-point increments.

When to expect your scores:

Scores for the computer-based GRE revised General Test are reported 10 — 15 days after your test date.

Scores for the paper-based test are sent approximately 6 weeks after your test date.

Viewing unofficial scores:

At the test center, you will see your unofficial Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores on the 130 – 170 score scale. Because of the essay scoring process, you won't be able to view your Analytical Writing scores at that time.

How GRE scores are sent to institutions:

Making sure your scores are sent to the graduate and business school programs you're applying to is a very important part of the process. Four FREE score reports are included with your test registration and sent to the programs or fellowship sponsors you select. You can also order additional score reports to be sent to more institutions of your choice for a fee.

  • On test day, when viewing your scores at the test center*, you can select the:
  • ScoreSelect Most Recent option – Send your scores from your current test administration (FREE).
  • ScoreSelect All option – Send your scores from all test administrations in the last 5 years (FREE).
  • You can decide which option to use for each of your 4 FREE score reports.
  • After test day, you can send Additional Score Reports for a fee by selecting from the following:
  • ScoreSelect Most Recent option – Send your scores from your most recent test administration.
  • ScoreSelect All option – Send your scores from all test administrations in the last 5 years.
  • ScoreSelect Any option – Send your scores from one OR many test administrations in the last 5 years.

Scores for a test administration must be reported in their entirety. Regardless if you choose the Most Recent, All or Any option, you will select specific test administration dates so your Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing scores are all from the same testing session. Institutions will receive score reports that show only the scores that you selected to send to them. There will be no special indication if you have taken additional GRE tests. learn more >

*If you are taking the paper-based GRE revised General Test, you will designate score recipients during registration or on the admission ticket correction stub prior to your test administration.

GRE test scores are part of your reportable history for five years after the testing year in which you tested (July 1-June 30).

Your score report will include the names of all the schools you're sending scores to, plus your cumulative record reported at that time. The score reports your designated schools receive will not include the names of the other schools you're submitting scores to.
